Hi! It was a quiet week translation wise last week, apart from a couple of tiny projects which I was able to turn around on the same day. One of the jobs came in on Saturday night and they wanted it done by 2am, so I charged accordingly! Other than that, I had a lot of free time.
That’s one of the things about freelancing – work is never guaranteed, and sometimes you find yourself with days of no work. In order to counteract this, it is important for me to get stuck in to bigger projects and work really long days so that this ‘time off’ is paid for – otherwise my overall income would suffer and I would be financially better off working for a fixed salary somewhere.
As I mentioned in last week’s post, I recently discovered Mrs Hinch and after watching her videos, I was inspired into doing an ‘autumn clean’. Who knew that watching someone pouring bicarbonate of soda and vinegar down a sink would be so effective? The big clean is almost finished now and it is so nice to be able to find everything quickly. We have a relative coming to stay this weekend so the day before I can just have a quick whip round rather than doing full clean.
Having said all that, our wardrobes are always messy. Somehow, they are impossible to keep tidy. Once in a while I empty them, fold everything neatly then put everything back in – and lo and behold two days later the clothes are in a state of disarray again – anyone else have this problem?
I have also caught up on some DIY. Before my hip replacement a few months ago, I decorated our flat because the paintwork was starting to look a bit shabby and I wanted to be able to recuperate in nice surroundings. This took me a while to do as at the time I was in a considerable amount of pain so was working quite slowly, but by the time the operation date came around it was mostly done and the flat looked a lot better. However, there were still some jobs to do including painting the front door, changing some light switches and fittings, replacing the carpet dividing strips (whatever they are called!). I have completed these jobs over the course of the last week and am really pleased with the result.
On Sunday we visited ‘Casa do Frango’ in London Bridge for the first time – am pleased to report that the food was fabulous, a good place to eat proper Portuguese chicken piri piri and chips in London.
That’s all for this week – thanks for reading. More next Monday!
