What are Purely Creative scratchcards?
Purely Creative scratchcards are free game cards produced by Watermark Games. They are often found in magazines and are sometimes handed out in shops. To check for a win, simply scratch off the squares on the card to reveal the hidden symbols beneath. If 2 or 3 of the symbols match then you have won a prize.
How do I find out what the prize is?
These scratchcards feature a premium rated number to call or text to find out what your prize is and obtain a claim number. The calls cost a rather hefty £1.53 a minute and if you decide to opt for the text message route, Watermark games will send you 6 text messages. Receipt of these texts will set you back £1.50 per text.
However, it is possible to do this via post, which will only cost the price of two second class stamps.
How do I claim by post?
Claiming by post is quite simple, you just need to do the following:
1 – Write to the address on the back of your scratchcard and request a claim number for it. Make sure you enclose an SAE. It will take a few weeks but eventually your claim number will arrive in the post. If you are claiming for a couple of scratchcards at the same time, write the scratchcard number on the inside of the SAE, so that you will know which card your claim number corresponds to.
2 – Fill out your details on the scratchcard and add your claim number. Your prize will arrive in the post a few weeks later. Occasionally you will receive a letter offering a prize exchange (mine have been for discount club memberships) which you can decline or accept via email.
What kind of prizes are on offer?
One of the most frequent wins on these cards is a designer fragrance or an Italian collection watch. Of course, it is well known that the terms ‘designer’ and ‘collection’ can be interpreted in many different ways, so this does not necessarily mean that the prize will be a high end, luxury brand. In my experience, the Italian collection watch turned out to be a ‘Zurich Sports’ watch which retails for around £10 and the designer fragrance (see photo) is of the type usually displayed in the section aimed at teenagers in discount cosmetics stores.
I have successfully claimed the £10 prize a couple of times, it eventually arrives in the form of a cheque and I have had no problems paying them in. This represents a decent return on two stamps!
Many people, including me have won a holiday – this usually consists of a week’s self-catering accommodation in Spain, and you have to pay for your own flights and transfers. I haven’t taken them up on this as either the dates offered have not been convenient or the resort has not appealed to us, so I can’t really offer any personal experience.
Overall, I would say that if you come across a Purely Creative scratchcard it is worth claiming the prize if you have a few minutes to spare, but don’t expect too much from it!
